PERC technology is a new solar cell architecture that differs from the typical cellular architecture used to date.
This technology allows manufacturers to achieve higher performance than standard solar cells that reach their natural limits.
Improving the efficiency of solar cells helps reduce costs. The new PERC technology aims to achieve greater energy efficiency by adding a dielectric passive layer to the back of the solar cell.
The structure of a PERC solar cell from front to back:
• Color coating of silver paste.
• Anti-reflective coating (ARC).
• Silicon wafers that form a P-N branch.
• Dielectric passive layer.
• Aluminum screen paste layer printed.
Although invisible to the naked eye, PERC technology acts as a mirror, as a reflective layer on the back of the cell.
Since the cell cannot absorb all the sunlight it receives ,the addition of PERC helps to reflect on the inside every light that passes, giving the cell a second chance to be absorbed and produce energy. The PERC layer also improves cell efficiency by lowering its temperature. The heat in the cells causes the electrons to recombine in the back. The PERC acts as a shield between the base layer and the back contact, effectively sinking electrons back into the cell for greater efficiency.
